Optimizing ZIPs of Images through the Web Interface

Karim SalmanKarim Salman

One of our most highly requested features, the ability to upload a ZIP archive, is now live. Many users will find uploading a ZIP through our Web Interface to be far more productive than optimizing images a one-file-at-a-time – of course, if you prefer, you can still drop in as many “single files” as you like in one go.

Being able to upload a ZIP to get the contained images optimized presents several advantages:

How do I use this feature?

To use the ZIP uploader, simply visit Web Interface PRO while logged in to your Kraken.io account. You’ll notice a new button below the dropspace labeled “Upload a ZIP Containing Your Images”. Clicking on it will present you with a dialog box inviting you to select the ZIP you would like to upload from your computer.

Before you do that, you might want to tweak the optimization settings, located at the top section of the uploader, to your preferences. Any and all settings you choose will be applied, as with the normal Uploader tool.

Once you have selected the archive you would like to have optimized, you will get an upload progress indicator until the upload has completed. It is important that your browser remains open during the upload process, but once it is done, it is safe to close your browser. You can come back later to download the optimized archive, as previously mentioned.

The archive will remain in the Optimized Archives section of your Kraken.io account until you decide to delete it.

What happens to other (non-image) files present in the original ZIP archive?

You’ll get those back too. The archive will be the same as it was before, only with less bloated and faster, better images.

That’s it! Feel free to drop us a comment or an email us if you have any questions about this feature, we would love to get your feedback!
